At
our June program meeting, our guest, David Gubernick provided a very personal
look into not only his publication experience with Wildflowers of Monterey
County but also his passion
for photography, particularly in the form of macro (very close up)
photography of the universe within the wild flowers that surround us. Members
and guests were given a rare and candid look into the how this
beautiful
art-based literary project progressed through various steps of
development from initial idea to wonderfully finished product. In many
ways, it was an exercise in "letting go of control" according to
David, but a journey he will doubtless take again. Thank you David!
David's approach to photography is derived from his profound
love of Nature and based upon the emotional response to the beauty that he sees. His transcendent photos take you into another world
until you realize that the majestic scenes are right here on our glorious planet!

His
first photography book, (2002), received rave reviews in addition to a Benjamin Franklin and an Independent
Publisher Award.
David, a former teacher and PhD scientist by training, left academics in 2000 to pursue his passion for Nature and photography. He founded
his company, Rainbow Spirit Photography and resides in Carmel Valley.
